Headpieces

While doing Contessa for HAIRFX I took some time to make headpieces.

When Janique and I were in TO, we kept seeing these headpieces that were priced at upwards of $50 for something so simple as a flower on a headband. SO I made them at home. Why? because I can... and what outfit is complete without a headpiece?

The only issue now, is that I'm completely and utterly obsessed with them, and am itching to get down to Michaels to buy more supplies! :)

I haven't blogged in a while... I guess I forget that I have the ability... that or I'm too lazy. or busy.

Anyway, let's see...

Janique and I recently went to Toronto to shoot with David Hou. He's an incredible photographer. We shot Model, Ali Lalonde, and worked with Taca Ozawa from FORD (hair). The shoot was well, but I'm kind of disappointed that we didn't do something more extreme. As soon as Janique and I got back to Winnipeg we decided to change gears and move toward doing planned shoots that were designed to be 3,5, or 7 look sets that we could then push to canadian magazines. We have some wicked ideas to come!

Hairfx had their Contessa shoot a little while ago, in which I did the neck pieces... It's funny how when something is high end, it develops the name "piece" at the end...
hat -> headpiece
watch -> timepiece
therefore I decided it was probably ok to change from necklace - > neckpiece for what I designed for them.
Each hairstylist picked a material (metal, feathers, wood) and I designed a neckpiece for their model. The shots were to focus more on the hair, with slight colour in the makeup, and then the neckpieces were for texture/shape to emphasize the overall look.
*pictures to come, but I can't release them until the contest entry deadline is over :(

I'm super stoked because we planned some shoots coming up with a few more Winnipeg photographers. Latsch, Sousa, Wibawa...just to name a few. I love that every photographer/makeup artist/hairstylist has their own unique style, and that every one of those can be more suited to a specific look you want to achieve. Winnipeg definitely has some great talent!

I Just Can't Back This Up 100%...

You know, that little blurb that pops up after you've signed outta hotmail on the MSN page... The one that usually is detailing the best and worst dressed from this week's parties, launches, etc...

Well, when I logged off of hotmail this morning, I decided to check out their picks for "Worst Trends for 2008 - Goodbye and Good Riddance" - by Stephanie McGrath

Ok OK... I agree with such choices as the hippie headband sported by EVERY scenester kid these days...

But "the angled bob"!?!?! SOOOOO 2007!? Let's get the year right first, hun.

Uhm... FEATHERS. She has a problem with feathers!? I'm totally down with a full on feather skirt - such as this little number by Andrew GN

Bangs. Now, as far as trends go, yes. 2008 was the year of the bangs. But I dig 'em. 

Since we're on the topic of facial hair here, she apparently also has beef with the moustache. I for one am totally a fan of male facial hair. No objections here!! 

Now, I'll give the lady SOME credit. She did make mention of popped collars, ridiculously skin tight man pants, and as per above - the hippie headband... but really. What trends DID you like sweetpea? I'd like to see what you're rockin'.

Vie Vie La Boutique!

I went to Value Village with my mumma on the weekend looking for a gag gift for a friend, when I came accross THIS COAT:


I snatched it up, and even though it was about two sizes too big, I purchased it anyway, determined to take it home to alter it.

Now, uuussssuuuaallly I SAY I'm going to, but I RARELY get around to altering these great finds... But this one was different. And I'm quite pleased with my results!
I was lucky enough that it was double breasted, so I literally just moved the buttons over, spread out the top ones, and voila! It fits like a glove.

I'm officially one step closer to a full on fur coat! lol.

Oh, and let's not forget our cold weather accessories!!
